TOUR 1: 13DAYS/12NIGHTS

NORTHERN PART OF CAMEROON. 

 

TOUR ITINERARY: DOUALA (EDEA) – YAOUNDE – NGAOUNDERE (NGAOUNDABA) – MAROUA (WAZA) – GAROUA (BENOUE) – NGAOUNDERE – YAOUNDE – KRIBI – DOUALA.

DAY (1)

  • Arrival at the Douala International airport, reception and transfer to hotel, brief description of Cameroon, proper explanation of tour by guide, dinner and night at Foyer du Marine..

DAY (2)

  • Early wake up, birding on the mud flats at the Douala port, break fast and drive to Yaoundé by road to get an evening train for Ngaoundere. Along the Douala-Yaoundé road, we make stops at river Sanaga in Edea where we will do some birding. Expectations are Preuss’s cliff swallows, Black kites, Senegalis kingfisher, weavers and Grey pratincole. We get to Yaoundé in four hours and book an overnight train where we will have beddings provided but we take along our own food and drinks onboard or eat the food provided by the hostesses.

DAY (3, 4)

  • We arrive Ngaoundere, have lunch and transfer to Ngaoundaba ranch for two nights. The ranch is an old hunting lodge situated besides a dormant volcano overlooking a Crater Lake. We will bird in marsh land, open Lake, woodland and gallery forest. In all these habitats, we will expect to see the following; Snowy-crowned Robin Chat, Purple Glossy Starling, Western Grey Plantain-Eater, Marsh Tchagra, Blue-Breasted Kingfisher, Dybowski’s, Brown Twin-Spots, Schlegels Francolin, Brown-Chested Lapwing, Western Violet backed Sunbird, Black-Capped Babbler, Ross’s Turaco, Grey-Winged Robin chat, Puvells Illadopsis and many more. This birding will be interspaced with break where we will return to the ranch for lunch and get back in the evening for birding again and return at night.

DAY (5)

  • Early wake up, birding on the way, breakfast in Ngaoundere and continue to Maroua while birding on the way and try Lake Dang if it is not yet hot. Install in the hotel, dinner and spend the night at Relaise Porte Mayo.

DAY (6, 7)

  •  After an early morning breakfast, we will continue up north for the Waza National Park where we will spend two nights. On the way , we will expect to see Rock Loving Cisticula, White Crown Cliff chat, Red-tailed Lavender Waxbill, African Swallow tailed Kites and others. Install in the hotel, have lunch and go for an evening birding in the Park. While in the Waza National Park, the possibilities there are; short-Toed Snake Eagle, Hoopoe, Abyssinian Roller, Helmeted Guineafowl, Bateleur, Wooly-Necked Stork, Namaqua Dove, Chestnut-bellied Sand grouse, Four-banded Sand grouse, Little Green Bee-eater, Black Scrub Robin, Viellot’s Barbet, Black-crowned Crane, River Prinia, Sahel paradise Whydah and many more. Return at dust, dinner and night. The next day, early birding around the hotel and Park again, return for lunch and go back in the evening for birding and return at dust for dinner and night.

DAY (8, 9)

  • Early morning birding and drive to the Benoue National park while birding in the savannah woodland as well where we will make stops at some points for birding. We will expect to see Lesser Blue-Eared Starling, Senegal Parrot, Long-Tailed Glossy Starling, Northern Carmine Bee-Eater, Black-Bellied Fire Finch and Bustard and many others. At the Benoue Park, we will be at campement de Buffle Noir which is enclosed by a Miombo-like forest. Here we will expect to see the Adamawa Turtle Dove, White-Crested and Violet Turaco, Egyptian Plover, Spur-Winged Lapwing, Afrcan Wattled Lapwing, Grasshopper Buzzard, Emins Shrike and others. Birding will be done from the road side to the Campement and the next morning, along the river side and later in the afternoon, birding down to the Hippopos and back for dinner ands night.

DAY (10)

  • Early breakfast and departure from Benoue to Ngaoundere for an overnight train to Yaoundé.

DAY (11)

  • Arrive Yaounde in the afternoon and transfer to a hotel in Kribi, dinner and spend the night.

DAY (12)

  • Early breakfast and go birding and return by afternoon, have lunch and relax while doing the summary. Spend the night in Kribi.

DAY (13)

  • Wake up, breakfast, relaxation and drive to Douala while birding on the way. Arrive Douala, do some birding on the mud flats behind Foyer du Marine, go for shopping, have a resume of tour, comments and suggestions for the future, farewell dinner, escort birders to the Douala international airport and end of tour.

NB: BIRDERS CAN GO FOR AN EXTENTION TO THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE COUNTRY WHICH CAN BE NEGOTIATED WITH THE GUIDE FOR 10 DAYS OR MORE.

INCLUDED IN TOUR PRICES; Vehicle (4wheel) +driver, train fare, entrance, porters and guide fees, all meals, water, accommodation and camping.
